After playing professionally in the Philippines, I took some time to visit Thailand and Bali. As I was introduced to beautiful Hindu cultures, I found my practice in yoga, where my relationship with the Aum symbol was born.

Origins:
This symbol embodies essence of the universe through patterns of threes.

While the sound is pronounced "Om," it is composed through the three different sounds of "a- u-m." These triads embody representations of our multiple three worlds: Earth, Atmosphere and Heaven; along with Thought, Speech and Action.
They illustrate the three qualities of matter being Goodness, Passion and Darkness; accompanying the three worlds of the soul: the Past, the Present and the Future.
The pattern of three is why we chant "Aum" three times in meditation and yoga practices. Through this chant, we speak to these worlds.
In return, it helps to calm our minds and our nervous systems, allowing our energies to come closer to balance and serenity.
Inspiration:

This piece includes colors of the seven chakras known to harness the lines of energy throughout our body starting from the base of the spine to the crown of the head:
Sahasrara Crown Chakra
Ajna/ Agya/ Brow Third Eye Chakra
Vishuddha Throat Chakra Anahata Heart Chakra
Manipura Solar Plexus Chakra
Svadhishthana Sacral Chakra
Muladhara Root Chaka
As opposed to painting the symbol directly on the surface, I chose to display the "Aum" symbol within the exposed wood. I wanted the symbol itself to be represented in an organic form. Since it embodies a Union of the mind, body and spirit within, I wanted to pay respect to the art of focusing inward. It was important to me to honor the conversation that we have with our most natural selves.
The meaning of this wood piece is to bring Balance and Harmony into its home.
Place it in the presence of your crystals, in front of your yoga mat or near your bedside and feel the calm coming through.

Each piece is sanded down, stained and painted in our little workshop of a home garage in California. All items are repurposed from wood left over to be trashed. This includes anything between palettes found on the road, to wood scraps on their final destination of the dump. I am committed to creating pieces under an environmentally friendly process to help conserve our world to its natural state.
